Focus and Scope
Journal of Social Inclusion (JoSI) provides an accessible forum for informed critical debate on the issue of social inclusion in the form of:
- editorials
- peer-reviewed scholarly articles
- conference papers
- commentary
- book reviews
- photo essays.
Journal of Social Inclusion (JoSI) will present both an Australian and a broader international perspective, from a wide range of methodological and theoretical points of departure.
This journal does not charge APCs or submission charges.
Section Policies
Editorial
Guest Editors will be invited to contribute on occasion.
Articles
Articles of 4000-6000 words (including references) are invited on topics within the focus and scope of the journal. Submissions to this section will be subject to a double blind peer review process. To submit an article:
Commentary
This section will provide a forum for practitioners to offer an informed analysis of topical issues within the aims and scope of the journal. Submissions of between 1500-2500 words are invited. To submit a commentary:
Conference and Workshop Papers
Submissions to this section should address issues within the focus and scope of the journal and are invited to be between 3000-4000 words. To submit a paper:
Book and Media Reviews
Submissions to this section require prior editorial approval. If the title is recent and the subject matter within the aims and scope of the journal, a 800-1000 word review may be invited. To submit a review:

Peer Review Process
After initial screening of all submissions by the editors, scholarly manuscripts (articles, conference papers) will be peer-reviewed by two anonymous reviewers selected for their expertise in relevant fields.
Submissions may be:
- accepted,
- accepted subject to revisions, or
- rejected.
Publication Frequency
The Journal of Social Inclusion (JoSI) will be published bi-annually. The Journal of Social Inclusion (JoSI) commenced publication in April 2010.
Open Access Policy
The Journal of Social Inclusion (JoSI) provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
General call for papers
The Journal of Social Inclusion is a peer-reviewed academic journal that will contribute to current knowledge and understanding of the social processes that marginalise individuals, families and communities.
The journal will be published biannually, with the possibility of additional themed issues. Articles should demonstrate original research and fit within the scope of the journal.
Scholarly submissions are invited from a broad range of disciplines including, but not restricted to, human services and social work, ethics, sociology and social policy, public health, psychology, legal studies, education, criminology and criminal justice, gender studies and creative arts.
The Journal of Social Inclusion will emphasize:
- Research and developments in social inclusion from Australia and internationally that contribute to the creation of new knowledge of and strategies for its enhancement;
- New perspectives in social inclusion that engage with traditions, ideas and approaches in other regions and countries;
- Research that is rigorous, creative and cutting-edge, but that is directly informed by and engages with the experiences, movements and accounts of the socially excluded; Interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research and developments;
- Research and work in the area of social inclusion from outside the dominant sociological tradition.
Submissions and deadlines
Submissions to the Article or Conference Paper sections of the journal will be double blind peer-reviewed. Papers submitted to the Book Review and Commentary sections will not be reviewed. The decision of the Editorial Committee will be final.
The journal uses a rolling submission process, so there are no specific deadlines. Submissions are welcomed at any time and will be processed as they are received. However in order to be considered for a specific issue, submissions should be received approximately three months prior to publication date.

The Journal of Social Inclusion (JoSI) meets the definitions of research and peer-review required to claim articles under the C1 composite category (Refereed Article in a Scholarly Journal).
